ERF is a genre-bending four-piece from Des Moines, Iowa, weaving together elements of funk, progressive rock, psychedelia, and improvisational jam. Comprised of J.B. Williams (guitar, vocals), Bryce Wagner (bass, vocals), by Nick Babcock (drums, vocals), and Mike Givens the band has built a reputation for dynamic live shows that balance tight composition with fearless improvisation.

Their debut full-length album, Pale Blue Erf (2021), recorded at Flat Black Studios and mastered by Carl Saff, captures the breadth of their sound—from groove-heavy tracks and quirky funk vignettes to expansive, exploratory pieces that highlight the band’s chemistry. The record reflects their playful yet ambitious approach, showcasing meticulous songwriting alongside moments of free-flowing spontaneity.

Since forming, Erf has played more than a hundred shows across Iowa and beyond, steadily growing their following through word of mouth and high-energy performances. On stage, they thrive on the unexpected—seamlessly shifting from lush, atmospheric textures to driving rhythms and climactic peaks. Every set is different, with improvisation and crowd energy shaping the music in real time.

With roots in the Midwest but ambitions that reach further, Erf continues to carve out their own lane—pushing boundaries, surprising audiences, and proving that music can be as fun as it is fearless.
